The Surge in Ayn Rand

Betsy Speicher alerted me yesterday to the fact that “As of right now, Atlas Shrugged is the #1 best-selling book on Amazon in the category ‘Literature & Fiction.’” At the same time, another edition of the novel was ranked #6, and The Fountainhead was ranked #23. As of this morning, three different editions of Atlas Shrugged are in the top 10, and The Fountainhead is #17. What feats for novels published 52 and 66 years ago, respectively!

See my News Links page of this blog for just a few of the numerous times that Ayn Rand and Atlas Shrugged have been cited in the mainstream news recently.

The domestic policy of Franklin Roosevelt kept America in the Great Depression throughout his Presidency; Roosevelt’s foreign policy squandered the victories in two World Wars, with horrific consequences that America suffers to this day. Yet Roosevelt was elected President four straight times, and he is still revered today in mainstream culture. Obama too could have strong public support until the day he and his gang destroy America—and, with America, all of civilization—because the ideas that run Obama also run public education and the mainstream press. But America has a weapon today that did not exist in the Red Decade of Roosevelt: the written works of Ayn Rand.

Ayn Rand—through her novels and her philosophy of efficacious reason, of self-interest, and of capitalism—has given America a fighting chance.
