Understand the Good

To understand a good man, it is more important to know the good he is for than the evil he is against. To understand an evil man, it is more important to know the good he is against than the evil he is for.

For example, it is more important to know about a good man that he is guided fundamentally by reason than that he rejects guidance that is fundamentally by emotion. And it is more important to know about an evil man that he rejects reason than that he is guided fundamentally by emotion or by authority.

It is more important to know about a good man that he is for capitalism than that he is against socialism. And it is more important to know about an evil man that he is against capitalism than that he is for socialism or for communism or for theocracy or for tribalism or for the annihilation of mankind.

In short, it is more important to understand the good than the variants of evil.
